AI for tactical environments
Coordinated aerial and ground robotic teams leveraging AI-driven team intelligence for real-time casualty detection, triage assessment, and mission-critical decision support in high-risk environments.
Mission Control
The DARPA Triage Challenge
The DARPA Triage Challenge (DTC) aims to develop portable, autonomous systems that can assess and monitor injured individuals in remote or austere locations where advanced medical care is not immediately available.
Team Chiron is developing novel robotic technologies that combine unmanned aerial and ground vehicles with advanced AI to detect casualties, assess vital signs, and provide critical information to medical responders—potentially saving lives in scenarios ranging from battlefield injuries to natural disasters.
The challenge consists of multiple phases over several years, with teams advancing based on their ability to demonstrate increasingly autonomous and effective triage capabilities in realistic scenarios.
Why This Challenge Matters
The DARPA Triage Challenge brings together experts across multiple disciplines to develop life-saving autonomous technologies. Hear what our team members have to say:

"I'm excited that this challenge gives us the opportunity to develop technology with the potential to save lives, while fostering innovation across disciplines—from robotics to medical applications."

"My philosophy centers on transformative collaboration—uniting robotics, AI, and medicine to redefine public safety. Developing rapid response to threatening emergencies saves lives. Our partnership between Pittsburgh's leading universities, public safety, and military exemplifies the essential fusion of innovation and action, securing a safer future through cutting-edge, time-critical interventions. There will not be a wonder drug any time soon- the answer is here!"
